CD Linking limitation on Mac OS X

Please READ carefully this IMPORTANT INFO with regards to the Mac OS X version!

FlashToGo was conceived back in 1998. Back then, the only/main OS systems available were the Windows XP and the Mac OS. Today we have a pletora of technologies and systems, including the new Windows Vista and the Mac OS X.

Since then, Macromedia has implemented several --better say countless, security patches to the Flash plug-in starting back on Flash 6 (MX).

Such security-based changes ended up blocking the ability to link to external applications, such as Powerpoint presentations, PDF files, Word Documents, AVI/Quicktime movies, even plain web url's.

All the Series (sites/interfaces) created by FlashToGo (except for the Band Series) were developed using the Flash 5 version, exactly to circumvent the blocking mechanisms implemented by Macromedia (now Adobe) in recent versions of the plug-in, started on version 6.

Mac OS X

Unfortunately, Adobe/Marcomedia has not made the Flash 5 plug-in version available for the Mac OS X system, making it impossible for us to build a native application for Mac OS X based on Flash 5, which is the only version that supports linking to third-party applications, files or even to web addresses.

Since the Flash 6 plug-in (and up) agressively blocks any attempt to call or connect to external applications or even to create simple links to simple web URLs, the links included within the FlashToGo Presentations (CD Version) DO NOT WORK on Mac OS X Systems.

The only option we found to develop fully working Presentations for the Mac OS X platform requires us to manually hand code all the links within the presentation, including complex coding and compiling the presentation as a stand-alone application using expensive third-party software and spending several working hours.

So, if building a native application for Mac OS X is a must for you, you may request such as an additional service to our Tech Team. The base price is US$ 500.00 and we request 5-7 business days.

Please contact the FlashToGo Support Team shall you have any further questions or if you have any special Presentation (multiple sites) that you want to integrate into a single Presentation or so.

NOTES

If your Presentation does not have links to external applications you shall not worry about this issue.

This issue does not affect the Windows XP systems since the Flash 5 Plug-in is still available for that platform.
