  • What is a Meta-Tag?

Meta-Tags play an important role in regards to Search Engine's indexing and ranking.

Meta-Tags are small pieces of code embeded within the pages of your website that contain information about the content available there.

Search Engines look for those special instructions in order to index the information and using different criteria, rank sites in accordance to their relevance.

  • Search Engine friendly

FlashToGo provides a simple way for you to edit the Meta-Tags of your web site, such as the title, description and the keywords, without the need to manually edit the source code of your index page.

It is very important to set the Meta-Tags and make your site "Search Engine friendly"

    .

  • How to set the Meta-Tags

You will be able to edit the Meta-Tags from the Editing Area of the FlashToGo web site, right after logging into the Members Section.

From the top left menu, click at "Edit Page Details".

You will be able then to enter the TITLE for the page (default is "Welcome!"), the KEYWORDS, that should be separated by spaces or commas, and the SITE DESCRIPTION, which should be a brief description of your site (around 250 characters).

  • Submit your Site!

Please note that Meta-Tags alone do not guarantee your site will be indexed. You should submit your site for inclusion to each Search Engine you find interesting. Consider hiring some company that can provide automated submition to Search Engines. It might save you a lot of time.

  • Website optimization: How to get top ranked?

We heard that since our site is entirely Flash-based search engines cannot read it.

This information is partially true. There are some engines that are now capable of reading inside the Flash movie, but it does not solve the issue completely, right?

The FlashToGo.com web site itself is entirely built in Flash.

There are a couple things to be done and to consider.

Google is God, and Google, for example, indexes a site based on 100+ factors (105 to be precise). Those factors include the Domain name, the page file name, the title of the page, the number of times some keyword appears an that and each page, if the keyword appears at some title and the size of the title, etcetera etcetera.

All the other Search Engines follow, one way or another, the same rules for indexing a page, but the free-lunch time has been long gone. Even though you follow all the guidelines, and there are a couple of books entirely devoted to the Google system, do not expect to be on top positions when some user browse from some important string (keyword).

The Serach Engine business plays now a totally different ball game. They are looking for revenue. Your site can even be indexed on top positions on some very specific keyword(s), those that are not that "searchable" or are very specific, but if you need to get traffic and leverage your sales you should consider a PPC (Pay-Per-Click) Network such as Overture, Findwhat, Kanoodle, GoClick or all of them put together.

In that case, your site will be ranked anyway, no matter if it is Flash, text, Java, html, whatever :-)

Of course there is a way to have your Flash pages indexed and this is applicable ALSO to regular HTML pages. These are called "side-pages" and work like this: suppose the string "furniture design" is important to your business and you would love to appear on top positions when someone search for it. You should create a page which the file should be named "furnituredesign.htm", include a big title "furniture design" and some text about your site that contains the same terms several times.

Do not forget to include the Meta-Tags specific related to that string and potentially "mispellings" versions of it, such as "furniture desing". :-)

Of course, you should place a link to your site so visitors could have access to visit the "official" version of your company's site and not just the side-page. Some companies use an auto-redirect tag that auto forwards side-page visitors to the main site URL (web address).

We have been very brief here, since it is a very complex topic but we hope you get the picture.

You can have only a single page with many keywords and lots of titles, which will do. It will save a lot of time but it will not get the same results.

Generally speaking, search engines look mostly for the Meta-Tags, which display the Site's title, what it is all about and the related keywords.

Such info can be edited throgh the FlashToGo system with ease. Your site will be indexed by all Search Engine that you submit, BUT, either way it is not a guarantee that your site will appear on top positions.

The bottomline is, that are several actions to be taken depending on what you need, ranging from simple to complex to expensive.
