The Flash 5 plugin is needed, which is very popular these days... according to macromedia, over 99% of the internet users already have it installed.

  • Does the site take to long to load?

Not really, considering the characteristics of such a site, with so many photos. our engine uses a very efficient optimization/compression alghoritm. the images are small while preserving the quality required for such sites.

  • How many images and pages are supported?

Both the Portfolio 80 Series and the Portfolio 40 Series support 5 text pages as follows:

    Contact Page;
    Four text pages;

You will be able to upload one image to both the contact page and to the four other text pages.

The Portfolio 40 supports 4 (four) image sections. Each section can handle up to 10 (ten) images. Total 40.

  • Can I build a Movies Portfolio?

Yes! There is a new Portfolio sub-series available named Movies Portfolio.

You can display from 1 to 12 Movies. Each movie can have up to three different versions, such as MPG, Quicktime, AVI, ASF, etcetera...

As you probably know, your visitors might not able to vizualize certain formats, so it is very important that you provide different file formats of each movie to ensure your audience will be able to visualize it properly.

    Important!

There are some formats, such as RealVideo that will require some SERVER features, so, this issue is NOT particularly related to the interface provided by FlashToGo.

Providing RealVideo or streaming movies will require features at your server's end.

    Important -2

The movie files themselves (because those are usually large files), must be uploaded directly to your server (where your site/domain is hosted) separately, using a third-party FTP shareware. Such kind of software is really easy to use and a must for anyone willing to maintain his/her own web site. Further info with regards to FTP can be accessed here!

  • How to insert my Logotype?

In regards to the Portfolio Series, the Logotype is hand-coded into the template itself by our design team, at no extra cost *.

    * Since the logo has to be hand-coded into the site, in case you wish to send a different version of your logo at a later time, a fee will apply. The fee regards to the working hours needed to do that (half-an hour / US$ 25.00). The first time you send your logo, there will be NO fee.

You may forward your logo to our support team directly. If you have any comments, please feel free to include them.

The logo will be hand-coded within ONE business day, but you can work on your site in the meantime (upload photos/adding text, choosing the color etcetera).

    Image Format and size

For optimum results, your logo should be in vector-based format, such as the native files produced by softwares such as FreeHand, Illustrator, Corel Draw, .PDF (Acrobat) and a few others.

In addition, vector-based images allow us to create a transparent background for your image.

A nice option is an EPS file generated by Adobe Illustrator for example, since it can preserve the transparent background.

    Transparent Background

if you want the background to be transparent, you must send us the file in Photoshop (the layers must be preserved). The background must be on a separate layer, dettached from the logo.

We assume that you have already created your image in Photoshop or so.

    The image shall have at least two layers: the top layer is the image "shape", or the logo if you wish, and the bottom layer is the background;

Once the image is flattened against the background we can not remove it.

Send us the .PSD (Photoshop) layered file and we will be able to set the logo with transparent background at your site.

Another option that may preserve the background transparency is PNG24, which can be produced within Photoshop. You will need to remove that background layer and leave just the logo (no background) on a top layer. Click at the "Save for Web" button and choose PNG24.

Optionally, you may send us a Bitmap image such as: .JPG, .EPS, .TIF, .BMP, .GIF. In case you are wondering :-), Bitmap images are regular images produced by softwares such as Photoshop, digital cameras etcetera. In that case we will not be able to set a transparent background at your logo.

What's the big deal in having a Logo settled with a transparent background'

You may eventually change the backgroud color of the site, underneath the logo, and the logo will be seamlessly integrated to the site. Otherwise, there will be a box surrounding the logo, since the background of the Logo image is actually an integral part of the Logo file.

The dimesions are not a big deal, what really matter is the quality of the image itself and the size in Kbytes. Frequently, a 500 k image file is plenty enough.

If you have any questions, drop a note to our Support Team.

  • What is the ideal pictures/photos size (dimensions)?

The image maximum size is 500 pixels wide x 350 pixels tall. The size (in bytes) may vary according to the image itself. The maximum upload size allowed is limited to 35 kbytes but the ideal size is around 15 kbytes to 25 kbytes each.

The limitation is meant ONLY to preserve the performance of your Flash site.

The Random Images, that load right at the Home Page, can be as large as 85 kbytes. However, you should create the files as "lite" as possible. 35 K would be ideal.

    Top of the Page

  • Can the images be centralized?

Yes. What you need to do is to create the image at 500 pixels wide X 350 pixels tall, which shall display a "frame" surrounding a smaller, centralized image. The "frame" around the image must be part of the image itself.

  • Do I get the editable source codes (.fla)?

No, and you don't need it.

The customization process is fully automated and does not require the source-codes to be edited. In case you need some additions, you may request us to perform those for you. All the source codes are property of the FlashToGo.com.

  • And if I decide to stop using your services?

You can still continue using your site/presentation, FOR LIFE if you wish.

The FlashToGo Online Editor was created to facilitate the update/maintenance of your site. You may be even able to edit your site by manually editing some plain .txt files or updating your images if you are a bit Flash savvy.

You won't need the source codes of the main movie in order to do that, since the images are in separate files.

The yearly subscription renewal is optional and is priced at:

    Portfolio 40 (40 images): US$ 96.00
    Portfolio 80 (80 images): US$ 120.00

  • Do you provide hosting (my own domain)?

Our hosting is very basic. Your site files are available at our servers at:
    http://portfolio.FlashToGo.com/your_login

    Domain registration is not included.

FlashToGo is about web design services. There are plenty of nice hosting companies that can provide a first-class service, so, we prefer to keep our focus at our core business.

It is not mandatory to host your site with us. You may host your site anywhere you like.

  • Do you have other kinds of sites?

Yes we do. Please check out the FlashToGo.com main website.

    Top of the Page

  • Can I add more pages?

Yes, but such addition might be complicated. It would be easier to add a link to some pop-up page, which will do very well in most cases. Additional customization is rated at US$ 50.00/hour.

You may request graphic design tune-up, which is a simple procedure to our design team. If you need an accurate estimate, please drop us a note providing all the details.

  • How to add some text to the Home page?

You can simply include your text embeded within the random images (as part of the image itself).

In addition, advanced users can upload .SWF files (Flash movies) instead of plain .JPG images. It means, you may have animations, extra buttons, animated logo, etcetera loaded in place of the Random Images that load at the Home page of your Portfolio Site.

We have increased the size limit to 85 kbytes (max) per each random image. However, you should create your file as "lite" as possible.

  • Which kind of modification can be requested?

Different buttons (shape), different type faces/colors, custom sound effects, soundtrack, external links, extra pages, custom programming (cgi's) such as forms, guestbooks, pools, quizes etcetera.

    Top of the Page

  • Can I insert text links in the middle of the text?

Yes you can. Some basic html coding is accepted, such as character atributes (bold, italic...) font size, font color and text alignment (center, right, left). However, html coding is only accepted within the main text field boxes, not on titles (eg: buttons, page titles).

  • Do you create custom sites (from the scratch)?

Yes absolutely, but such a job can be far more expensive. :-) A custom website will take, at least, 40 hours to develop and may sometimes exceed 160 or 240 hours depending on what you might need.

The best -and most economical option still is to start from one of the pre-designed models and customize it from there.

    Top of the Page

  • Can I upload .gif or .png images?

No. only plain .jpg images are supported, which is the most appropriate format for use on the web.

Avanced users may eventually upload small Flash movies (.swf files) which is also acceptable.

    Top of the Page

  • Which version of Flash do you use?

The sites were created and exported as Flash 5.0 for maximum compatibility. Over 40% of users do not have the Flash MX plug-in installed yet, while our sites are compatible to the Flash 5 that is handled by 99%+ of users.
