  • Will the Search Engines be able to index my Flash site?

Yes. What Search Engines look for are the Meta-Tags, which holds your site's info and which is embeded within the index page of your site, apart from the Flash movie itself.

It is important to note that Google, Yahoo etcetera ARE able to read the content embeded into a Flash movie (inside of it) as they do with regards to PDF (Adobe Acrobat) documents for example, so it should not be a concern.

It is a MUST to note that, getting indexed is one thing, getting top-ranked is another... So please read the next topics.

  • About getting listed on Google, Yahoo etc...

This is a very complex topic and you will probably find dozens of books about it at Amazon :-)

We'll try to make it brief.

Designing the site (web design services) and get your site listing is a totally different ball game.

Those are un-related services that might eventually be provided by the same company.

We shoudn't say that but, do not rely on automatic subscription services to Search Engines and be extremely cautious with those search optimization services, most of them are schemes.

We've been there before. So, learn from our experience and go to Google, Yahoo and other major Search Engines yourself and include your URL and site well-written description.

There are around 600 Million web sites on the web today and, of course, growing, so it is useless to say that the era of being (espontaneously) listed or top-ranked has been long gone.

You may, of course, still be able to get some "obscure" string that can get you a top ranked position at Google, but there aren't many visitors that search for obscure strings such as "Iranian software house" for example. :-)

After the PPC (Pay-Per-Click) model became a standard, the only effective way to get top-ranked is to bid on targetted Search Strings that relate to your business/industry in particular.

Other than surrender to the PPC model, the only path you should follow is:

    1. Edit the META-TAGS of your site, which can be done from the Editing Area. Such info is read by the Search Engine's Index Robots when indexing pages. In case you enter "Iranian software house" you might probably see it on top after a few weeks. :-)

    2. Submit your site (yourself) to the major Top Search Engines such as Google, Yahoo etcetera.

    Link to Google's Submit-A-Site page

    Link to Yahoo's Submit-A-Site page

Spend some time writing your site description, a good Title that will motivate viewers to click at your link etcetera.

Important! It might take weeks until you get listed. It does not depend on your Meta-tags or how your site was designed (or us). Google is God and it depends only on them.

Another very important thing that you must know is that, if you change the Meta-tags at your site, it does NOT mean that it will instant reflect at the search engine's listing. It will NOT! The Search Engine will update their sites regularly but it is up to them when, whether or not they will update your site's listing SO, carefully edit the Meta-tags of your site PRIOR to subscribe your site to Google/Yahoo etcetera.

  • What is the criteria for being (top) ranked?

Well, Google takes into consideration over 100 different parameters to rank a site, such as the Domain name, meta-tags etcetera BUT, the most important thing that makes all the difference between being top-ranked or on page 198 is cross-reference. It means, the more sites link to YOUR site, the better chance you have to be on the top positions.

As you can see, those Search Optimization Services out there won't be able to offer you that nor to guaratee top ranked positions (as some do).

It explains why the big guys such as Microsoft, Apple etcetera shows up on top positions and there isn't much you can do about it.

If you are serious about getting traffic to your site, you should consider paying for it - Read the next topic.

  • About PPC (Pay-Per-Click)

Briefly, Pay-Per-Click is a business model where a network of different Search Engines associate and sell (better say rent) top positions when users browse for a string.

You have probably already noticed something like "Sponsored Links" that shows up next to the top results when browsing at Search Engines.

This model has become so lucrative to Yahoo, Google and others that is now the Search standard.

If you are serious about getting targetted traffic FAST and assured, you should consider PPC, or at least, give it a try.

The Pay-Per-Click Search Engines do not even consider if you have settled the Meta-Tags or not. You pay, you get it. Almost immediately.

However, you should not get too enthusiastic. PPC might be an expensive game if you do not use it properly, so here is a few tips taken from our own advertising experience: 1. When creating your bidding list, avoid general expressions that might get a LOT of traffic but very few business. For example, if you are in the Real-Estate industry, if you bid on real-estate, it might get you a lot of traffic, BUT, a more targetted sting such as "Properties in Southern California" might get a couple of leads with a lot more chances for an effective business deal.

    2. Try one PPC at a time. If you go for Google, try for some time (a month or so) after trying the Yahoo network (former Overture). The audience may differ from one network to another. After you get familiar with which network gets more for you bucks you will be more prepare to spend it wisely.

    3. Track the results! If you have a form at your site to collect data/inquiries, ASK your prospect how they have found your site. Talk to your customers! If you ae a proficient user who use Ecommerce, track where visitors come from. There are also lots of Stats softwares (Webtrends, StatCounter.com, etc) that identify where the users originate from, so check them out.

    4. Start easily. Create a small bidding list. The most targetted, the better. After you get familiar and you know how much traffic your site is getting you might be able to create more listings and get more traffic.

    5. Do the Math! You must alwasy track how much you are putting into Search Advertising and how much you are getting in business deals. This is called ROI (return-over-investment). Theoretically, more traffic means more business but traffic is NOT business itself. More qualified traffic certainly means more business than non-targetted traffic. Whenever possible, you shoud be aware of which strings generate more traffic and more sales/business. Consider the folowing example:

You might spend US$ 1,000 on the string "LA real-estate" and get US$ 10,000 in sales.
You might spen US$ 2,000 on the string "LA Properties" and get US$ 40,000 in sales.

The first example shows that you have spent 10% on advertising, while the second example (even though you have spent more) represent only 5%, which is a far better deal, a greater ROI. Example ONLY, please. :-)

Important! We do NOT, in any way, endorse or recommend the following PPC Networks. It is JUST meant to save you time looking for them. Check them out to get familiar with the PPC model prior to choosing one (or several) to try.
